AZ Contractor License FAQ
You must be 18 years or older to apply for an AZ contractor license.
You are required to have an AZ contractor license if your project will exceed $1,000 in total cost.
A B-1 contractor license in AZ allows a contractor to perform projects up to any size. The NASCLA exam may serve as the trades exam for the B-1 contractor license.
A B-2 contractor in AZ allows a contractor to perform projects up to $750,000. The NASCLA exam may serve as the trades exam for the B-2 contractor license.
A General Residential contractor license only allows work on residential projects. The NASCLA exam does not serve as the trades exam for the General Residential contractor license.
In order to obtain an AZ contractor’s license you must have 4 years of work experience.
It is a Class 1 misdemeanor to perform work over $1,000 in Arizona without a contractor’s license.
The NASCLA exam can serve as the trades exam for the B-1 and B-2 contractor license in AZ. It does not serve as the trades exam for the General Residential contractor license.
- If gross volume is $150,000 or less, a $5,000 bond requirement
- If gross volume is $150,000 to $500,000, a $15,000 bond requirement
- If gross volume is $500,000 to $1,000,000, a $25,000 bond requirement
- If gross volume is $1,000,000 to $5,000,000, a $50,000 bond requirement
- If gross volume is $5,000,000 to $10,000,000, a $75,000 bond requirement
- If gross volume is over $10,000,000 a $100,000 bond requirement
If you have employees, you must have workers’ compensation insurance. If your entity is a single member or 50/50 with no employees, your entity may be eligible to be exempt from workers’ compensation.
