New Mexico Contractor License FAQ

New Mexico requires a contractor license for anyone engaging in construction related activity and contracting. However, if you have less than $7,200 in revenue each you, a license is not required.
The NASCLA exam or the GB-98 can be taken as the trades exam for the New Mexico commercial license.
You must have 4,000 hours of experience in general building construction to meet the GB-2 contractor license requirements in New Mexico.
You must have 8,000 hours of experience to be eligible for a GB-98 contractor license.
You must have 8,000 hours of experience to be eligible for a GB-2/GB-98 contractor license.
Contractors need to carry a $10,000 contractor license bond in New Mexico.
The NASCLA application fee is $35. Once you have been accepted to sit for the exam, the testing fee with PSI is $130.
The New Mexico Business and Law exam is a single book, open book exam to test your knowledge on the specific rules and regulations of business in New Mexico.
You must be 18 years old to obtain a contractor’s license in New Mexico.
